Elevated Women: Sophie Hobbs / Nanda\Hobbs Contemporary
A longtime friend of POL and epitomising Elevated Everyday Style, we continue our Elevated Women series this month by featuring Marketing Manager Sophie Hobbs. We visited Sophie at Nanda\Hobbs Contemporary in Chippendale before continuing our chat in her beautiful garden in Sydney's Inner West.
What are your morning rituals?
I don’t really have rituals. Every morning is different and always chaotic. But I do try to do Pilates or take a strong walk a few times a week. Breakfast is always on the run, but I never miss it!
I try to sort my outfit the night before – working in a gallery means I can have fun with what I wear but 'classic with a twist' is usually the go, and POL is worn most days. I walk to work each day, giving myself half an hour to clear my head and stretch my legs…grabbing a take-away coffee on the way, of course.

Where in the world do you feel most at home?
I grew up in country Tasmania and my connection there has never left me. I love the bush and one of my favourite places is my father’s fishing hut in the rugged central highlands of Tasmania. It’s a vast contrast living in inner west Sydney, but we have a beautiful garden which is my sanctuary and connection to 'home'.

How did you come to the career you’re in now?
I studied Marketing at university and worked in the food and wine industry before meeting my husband, Ralph. He’s an artist and was teaching art when we met over 20 years ago. My love of art grew quickly from him and we started the business in 2004. I look after the marketing and branding of the gallery, working closely with our artists. We both have a passion for food and wine and with, regular exhibition openings, dinners and events in the gallery, I feel I tick all the boxes! No two days are the same - I have the perfect career.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t worry about what people think of you. Close friends and family will always have your back and most others are too busy with their own lives to notice!

What is a product you just can’t live without?
I have three…great art, wine and food.
How do you relax?
Gardening, walking, cooking. Im a do-er so my relaxing involves activities. I find it hard to do nothing – my mind is too busy!
Sophie wears the Oasis Cami Dress.
Do you have a signature scent?
No. Ive been searching for decades and still haven’t found it. Every time I think I find one, it’s discontinued. I love fresh, citrus, floral scents if anyone has a suggestion…
What is your favourite thing to do to give back to the world/pay it forward?
I do voluntary marketing/PR work for The Chappell Foundation. Set up by cricketing great Greg Chappell in 2017, TCF raises awareness and funds for homeless youth. Homelessness is an insidious and growing problem with tens of thousands of young Australians sleeping without a roof over their heads every night. This should not be happening in a country as prosperous as ours and Im passionate about doing my small bit to help stop it.
